Mihaela Popa-Simil is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation in New Mexico, US where she has oversight of an endowment of over $65 million and an annual giving budget of about $5 million. Ms. Popa-Simil has had over 14 years of experience providing a full range of business accounting services to major public and private companies. As a CPA in Romania she worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG as well as for other national corporations. She has had an extensive experience in the non-profit sector and her expertise also includes cross-functional competencies in all phases of financial management, general accounting, financial accounting, managerial and cost accounting, auditing, financial statement analyses, and international accounting. Prior experience also includes working as the Financial Controller for New Holland Romania and, Head of the Accounting Department of ICE Felix Computers, the national computer’s manufacturer in Romania.

After moving to the United States with her family, Ms. Popa-Simil received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems concentration from College of Santa Fe, in Santa Fe, NM. Since graduation in 2003, she has worked for a variety of nonprofits in US. Besides volunteering for the IT & Telecom SIG she also served as VP of Finance and VP of Membership of PMI, Otowi Bridge Chapter in Los Alamos, NM. Ms. Popa-Simil earned her Ph.D. degree in economics from Romanian Academy, National Institute for Economic Research in 2007, the research paper focusing on environmental taxes system in Romania and European Union.
